Reactivating or Reauthorizing your TransCAD/TransModeler License

In order to run TransCAD or TransModeler on your computer, two things must occur: (1) the software must be installed and (2) the license must be activated on your computer. Licenses are tied to the computer on which they are activated. The license may have to be reactivated or reauthorized under the following three cases:

These steps need to be performed only once on the computer where the software is installed. Performing these steps more than once may cause the activation to fail.

  1. If you have a hardware license (USB key), please remove all hardware keys from the computer. If you have a software license, skip this step.
  2. Please install the new build/version of the software if you have not already done so.
  3. The installer will automatically launch the Activation Wizard (for software licenses) or Key Wizard (for hardware licenses). You can also run the Activation Wizard or Key Wizard manually.

  4. Initiate a new activation request.

    Choose "The license needs to be reauthorized, updated or new data regions need to be activated" and click "Next." Choose "Request Update from Caliper" and click "Next."

  5. Verify that the Name, Organization, Email, and Serial Number are correct and click "Next."

  6. Submit the activation request. Update codes are processed during Caliper’s normal hours of operation, Monday through Friday from 8AM to 6PM Eastern time. Please wait until Caliper returns a code to you, which will typically be done by the next business day. Requesting multiple codes may cause the activation to fail.

    Activation may be completed automatically, in which case the process is complete and you can skip all remaining steps. Choose "Submit request over the Internet."

  7. Under some circumstances a request cannot be sent automatically due to your firewall, router, or other security/network configurations.

    If you receive a message similar to the one below, choose "Automatically via the internet to a Caliper server" to try again. If the request cannot be sent automatically, choose "Create an email message to send to Caliper," which will automatically generate an email with the relevent information in your default mail client, or "Manually via mail or email," which will create a text file that you should manually email to blockupdate@caliper.com. If the request cannot be sent automatically, choose "Send request manually," which will create a text file that you should email to blockupdate@caliper.com.

  8. You will receive the reauthorization code in the email that you entered in Step 5 typically within 1 business day. Note, this is different from your product serial number. If you do not see it within one business day, please check your spam folder.
  9. Once you receive the email, run the Activation Wizard (for software licenses) or Key Wizard (for hardware licenses) again.

  10. Tell the wizard you have an update code.

    Choose "I have an update code from Caliper" and click "Next." Choose "Update with code received from Caliper" and click "Next."

  11. Verify that the contact information is correct again and click "Next."

  12. Paste the code you received in the email and click "Next."

Your license can only be activated on one computer at a time.

  1. Deactivate or remove the license from the current computer.

    If you have a software license, you just first deactivate the license on the current computer. Go to Windows Start Menu > TransCAD/TransModeler > Activation Wizard for TransCAD/TransModeler and choose "I want to deactivate the license." Click "Next." You should receive a message that your software has been deactivated successfully. If you have a hardware license, simply remove the USB key from the current computer. You will insert it in the new computer when you install the software on the new computer.

  2. Install the software on the new computer. The installation files may still be on the first computer in C:\Users\[Your Name]\CaliperDownload.
  3. Follow the instructions for Case 1 to activate the license on the new computer.

Each year, all licenses must be reauthorized using the Activation Wizard (for software licenses) or Key Wizard (for hardware licenses). This security/fraud measure has no cost. Failure to reauthorize your license will result in the license temporarily expiring and the software failing to start until it is reauthorized.

  1. Starting 45 days in advance of the reauthorization deadline, a reminder to reauthorize your license will appear when you open the software.

  2. To request the reauthorization code, choose "Launch Activation Wizard" (for software licenses) or "Launch Key Update Wizard" (for hardware licenses) and click "OK."

    You can also run the Activation Wizard or Key Wizard manually.

  3. If you have a hardware license, it may still be valid if you have not reached your reauthorization deadline. Please click the blue hyperlink to begin the annual reauthorization process. Force Update - Hardware License
  4. Follow the steps in Case 1 starting from Step 3 to complete the reauthorization process.

Below are some solutions to common problems that may interfere with your download:

Didn't get the software download email? Wait a few minutes then check your junk mail or spam mail folder.
Still didn't get the email? Send an email to blockupdate@caliper.com with an alternate email address and we will resend the download.
Your software license is stored in several files on the computer, and these files are encrypted. It is possible that antivirus software could detect one of these files as suspicious and either delete it or quarantine it, thus causing the license check to fail. Please try temporarily disabling the system's antivirus. You should do the same for any spyware software you have installed.

You may also try exempting the "C:\ProgramData\Caliper" folder from your antivirus software to prevent license disruption.
Certain automatic backup software operates by monitoring all file access and attempting to backup any files that are being edited. This can interfere with the license software and cause a failure.

Often failed downloads can be resolved with a different browser. If, for example, you are using Internet Explorer, try Firefox or Chrome.
  1. Verify that you are connected to the Internet by trying to access some websites.
  2. Try the download again from a different wifi network or try the download over a wired connection.
  1. Make sure that you are downloading files to a folder on your hard drive. The default download location is C:\Users\[Your Name]\CaliperDownload.
  2. Verify that you have enough space on your hard drive. If necessary, remove any unnecessary files and clear your default temp folder to free up disk space.
  3. If a permissions error occurs, make sure that you have write access to the folder to which you are downloading.
Certain viruses look for encrypted files deeming them important, and then they intentionally delete them or corrupt them. This would adversely affect your software installation.

Installation Help

To install the software, all you need to do is answer a few questions about where the program and data should be stored. To install the software on your computer:

  1. Start Windows.
  2. Run the setup.exe file that you downloaded or insert the Program DVD in your DVD drive (or Program USB drive into a USB port) to autorun the installation setup.
  3. Read the software license agreement. If you accept all of the terms, click Yes.
  4. The setup program guides you through the installation process, asking questions and making suggestions along the way. The installation creates a TransCAD submenu under the Programs menu item, directly accessible from the Start button.
  5. Register your software.

One or more components of the Caliper installer may be removed or corrupted by your system's anti-virus software. The installer may also be prevented from running by your antivirus software. Other software, such as automatic, or "instant" backup software, can cause similar behavior. If you encounter a problem when installing your software:

  1. Disable your antivirus and/or backup software.
  2. Reinstall the Caliper software.

If you still encounter any problems installing the software:

  1. Unplug the hardware (USB) key, if applicable
  2. Uninstall the Caliper software using the Windows Control Panel uninstaller program.
  3. Temporarily disable your antivirus.
  4. Reinstall the Caliper software.
  5. Re-enable your antivirus.

One or more components of the block driver may be removed or corrupted by your system's antivirus software. If you encounter a problem when installing your software:

  1. Unplug the hardware (USB) key
  2. Uninstall all Sentinel products using the Windows Control Panel uninstaller program.
  3. Reboot the computer.
  4. Temporarily disable your antivirus.
  5. Download the Sentinel System Driver Installer for Sentinel SuperPro, UltraPro & SHK.
  6. Reinstall the Sentinel System driver.
  7. Reboot the computer.
  8. Plug the hardware block (USB key) back in.
  9. Go to Windows Start Menu > TransCAD/TransModeler > TransCAD 8.0/TransModeler 5.0 Key Wizard.
  10. Follow the prompts and submit a new authorization request.
  11. Reenable your antivirus.
