Data Sources
The geographic data come from the TIGER/Line files. Tabular data are from the 2020 Census State Redistricting Data (Public Law 94-171) Summary File.
Geographic Files for Your State or County
Maptitude for Redistricting comes with a complete set of geographic files for your state. The most current version of the TIGER/Line files was used to create all of these files. If you purchased the City/County Edition, the geographic files will be for your county.
Streets
The Caliper Streets file (ccStreet.cdf) is a geographic file containing street segments for your state. Every single street segment that appears in the TIGER/Line files is contained in the Caliper Streets file, including many dirt roads, trails, and private roads.
The accuracy and completeness of the TIGER/Line files varies greatly from place to place. In particular, you may find that some recent subdivisions may be missing from the files, or that the address and ZIP Code information may be incomplete in some areas. Contact Caliper Corporation if you would like information on enhanced and updated versions of the Caliper Streets file.
County and State Boundaries
Maptitude for Redistricting comes with a county boundary file (ccCounty.cdf) and a state boundary file (ccState.cdf).
Landmarks
Maptitude for Redistricting includes these geographic files for statistical and administrative areas in your state:
- The ntLandmarkArea.cdf area file contains the boundaries of area landmarks. Each landmark is identified by name and type.
- The ntLandmark.cdf point file contains the locations of landmarks of various categories. Each landmark is identified by name and type, and includes address and phone. The county FIPS code is included for each landmark. This file contains more than 2.5 million records, and is best used for large-scale maps.
Statistical and Administrative Boundaries
Maptitude for Redistricting includes these geographic files for statistical and administrative areas in your state:
- The Census Block boundary file (ccBlock.cdf) contains the boundaries of all census blocks in your state.
- The Census Block Group boundary file (ccBlockGroup.cdf) contains the boundaries of all census block groups in your state.
- The Census Tract boundary file (ccTract.cdf) contains the boundaries of all census tracts in your state.
- The Census Place boundary file (ccPlace.cdf) contains the boundaries of all incorporated places in your state.
- The Consolidated City boundary file (ccConsolidatedCity.cdf) contains the boundaries of all incorporated consolidated cities in your state (CT, GA, IN, KY, MT, and TN only).
- The Alaskan Native Regional Corporation boundary file (ccANRC.cdf) contains all the Alaskan Native Regional Corporation boundaries in Alaska.
- The Indian Reservation boundary file (ccIndian.cdf) contains the boundaries of all Indian reservations in your state.
- The Tribal Subdivision boundary file (ccTribalSubdivision.cdf) contains the boundaries of all American Indian tribal subdivisions in your state.
- The Minor Civil Division boundary file (ccMCD.cdf) contains the boundaries of all Census Minor Civil Divisions (MCDs) in your state.
- The Subbarrio boundary file (ccSMCD.cdf) contains the boundaries of all Subbarrios in Puerto Rico.
- The State House boundary file (ccStateHouse.cdf) contains the boundaries of the state’s lower chamber legislative districts.
- The State Senate boundary file (ccStateSenate.cdf) contains the boundaries of the state’s upper chamber legislative districts.
- The Voting Districts boundary file (ccVotingDistrict.cdf) contains the boundaries of the state’s voting districts.
- The Congressional Dist boundary file (ccCongress.cdf) contains the boundaries of the state’s 110th Congressional Districts.
- The Combined Statistical Area boundary file (ccCSA.cdf) contains the boundaries of all Combined Statistical Areas in your state.
- The Core Based Statistical Area boundary file (ccCBSA.cdf) contains the boundaries of all Metropolitan and Micropolitan Statistical Areas in your state.
- The Core Based Statistical Area Division boundary file (ccCBSADivision.cdf) contains the boundaries of all Metropolitan Divisions in your state.
- The Urbanized Area and Urban Cluster boundary file (ccUrbanArea_Cluster.cdf) contains the boundaries of all 2000 Urbanized Areas and Urban Clusters in your state.
- The Urban Growth Area boundary file (ccUrbanGrowthArea.cdf) contains the boundaries of all Urban Growth Areas in Oregon.
School District Boundaries
Maptitude for Redistricting includes up to three geographic files for school districts in your state:
- The Elementary School boundary file (ccElementarySchool.cdf) contains boundaries for districts comprising just elementary schools.
- The Secondary School boundary file (ccSecondarySchool.cdf) contains boundaries for districts comprising just secondary schools.
- The Unified School boundary file (ccUnifiedSchool.cdf) contains boundaries for districts comprising both elementary and secondary schools.
Water Features
Maptitude for Redistricting contains a geographic file (ccWaterArea.cdf) that shows the locations of coastal and inland water bodies such as lakes, inlets, rivers and so on. It includes names for water landmarks where present in Census TIGER/Line.
Places of Interest
Maptitude for Redistricting contains a geographic file (ccLandmarkArea.cdf) that shows the boundaries of landmarks. Each landmark is identified by name and type. It also contains a geographic file (ccLandmark.cdf) that shows the point locations landmarks. Each landmark is identified by name and type.
Railroads
Maptitude for Redistricting contains a geographic file (ccRailroad.cdf) that contains railroad features from Census TIGER/Line files.
Pipelines/Power Lines
Maptitude for Redistricting contains a geographic file (ccPipelinePowerline.cdf) that contains pipeline and power line features from Census TIGER/Line files.
Rivers
Maptitude for Redistricting contains a geographic file (ccRiver.cdf) that contains rivers and stream features from Census TIGER/Line files.
