| New York City Board of Elections Reprecincts with Maptitude P&E |

As they did ten years ago, the New York City
Board of Elections is once again using
Maptitude for Precinct and Election
Management (Maptitude P&E) to redraw the
city's 6,000 precincts. By using the
"general purpose overlay" function, they
were able to create a "super-precinct" layer
in which each polygon contained only one
Congressional, State Senate, State Assembly,
City Council, and City Court district. They
then used the redistricting tools to split
up these super precincts into Election
Districts (their term for precincts) with
between 1050 and 1150 registered voters.
With the new features in Maptitude P&E they
were able to accomplish the work in a
fraction of the allotted time. For more

Now that most of the Congressional and state
legislative plans are in place, cities and
counties have begun redistricting city councils,
county commissions, school boards, water
districts, etc. The City/County Edition of
Maptitude for Redistricting is the best software
and data package to get the job done. This
version comes with the data for your city or
county, all ready to use. There is also a
version that runs as an
extension to ArcGIS
if you prefer working in that GIS environment. |
| Maptitude for Redistricting is Playing a Key Role in Redistricting Litigation |
A number of states have moved from map drawing
to plan analysis and approval (pre-clearance by
the Department of Justice or approval by the
state supreme court are two examples) and
litigation. Maptitude for Redistricting is the
only redistricting software that contains all of
the analytical tools required to do a thorough,
in-depth, and rapid analysis of submitted plans
and to defend your proposed plan in the courts.
With over 35 built-in reports, 8 measures of
compactness, numerous ways to compare multiple
plans, and ease of importing ACS data, Maptitude
for Redistricting is being used successfully by
state supreme courts, litigants, and defendants
(including the top redistricting lawyers and
firms) in this phase of the redistricting
process.
As an example, it took Caliper staff
less than two weeks from the first request to
prepare custom political data, deliver and
install software, and train the staff of a state
supreme court (we have been asked by them not to
reveal the name of the state) so that they are
now in great shape to review and act upon the
plans being submitted to them. This particular
state had not been one of our clients up until
now, and they are extremely happy with the
results we were able to provide in such a short
period of time, particularly since they had
become totally frustrated with their previous
redistricting software provider. |
