Tip:
Can I publish redistricting plans and other maps and data on the Internet or my intranet? |
There are three ways you can publish
redistricting plans and other maps and data on
the Internet and your intranet. The simplest way
is to choose Redistricting-Plan
Utilities-Publish Plan to HTML. Maptitude for
Redistricting turns the plan map and Districts
dataview into a static HTML page that you can
publish on your web site.
The second way is to
export your plan layer to a Google Earth
Compressed (.kmz) document. These documents can
be shared online and added directly to any
Google Earth window on a desktop or mobile
device. This method allows viewers to zoom in
and out and obtain information on the
characteristics you include.
The third and best
way is to create interactive web applications
that allow you to zoom the map to any location
and then display your redistricting data to a
wider audience. Caliper's
Maptitude for the Web is the easy-to-use and
cost-effective tool for this job. Maptitude for
the Web, a special edition of Maptitude
Geographic Information System (GIS) software,
includes all of the regular capabilities of
Maptitude, and in addition leverages powerful
functions that make it easy for you to design,
test and publish interactive map applications on
your web site. Maptitude for the Web lets you
create dynamic, independent, embeddable, and
interactive web applications using a map and a
Mapplication (application template). Maptitude
map applications are published via a server for
intranet or Internet access by end-users.
In
addition, Maptitude Online Redistricting is a
web-based redistricting software designed to
create redistricting plans, rather than just to
share them. The redistricting toolbox is similar
to the toolbox in the desktop version, and the
user can zoom, pan, and query the map using the
mapping tools.
