Maptitude GISDK Help

Server-Free COM Object Applications

You can use OLE linking in your client program in such a way that Maptitude itself can function as the COM Object application. Here is an example of how this would work:

From now on, any time the map file is updated, the link to the client program is refreshed. In addition, the client program can manually request that the link be refreshed at any time. Because Maptitude performs the update in the background, the user of your client program cannot distinguish between standard Maptitude and a custom COM Object application.

This implementation is somewhat limited, in that the map itself cannot be modified. In other words, the map scale and center, layers, layer styles and so on cannot be updated. However, if the principal purpose of the update is to utilize new database information that is used as part of the map (e.g., new sales data by state, which become available daily), this implementation is more than sufficient.
