For National Authors Day (November 1) we mapped over 22,000 bookstores nationwide and computed the number of stores per 100,000 people in each state. The national average is 6.6 bookstores per 100,000. The highest concentration of bookstores are in Vermont (17.1), Maine (14.3), Wyoming (11.9), and New Hampshire (11.8).
