For National Coffee Day (September 29) we mapped over 66,000 coffee shops nationwide and computed the number of stores per 100,000 people in each state. The national average is 20 coffee shops per 100,000. The highest concentration of coffee shops can be found in the Virgin Islands (52.93), Alaska (50.49), Washington (44.35), and Washington DC (42.80) all exceeding 40 coffee shops per 100,000.
